Like Moon Meteorites these meteorites are among the most thought-after and rarest on the market. Our newly classified Martian meteorites, much to the collector’s delight, belong to the most aesthetic and freshest shergottites, which ever were made available. The designation for this particular mars rock is 'Tissint'.
Shergottites are pieces of the crustal mantle of the planet Mars that were blown into orbit by an enormous meteorite impact hitting the red planet. After this impact, this meteorite travelled through space before it was eventually brought down to Earth by the Earth's gravitational pull.
How do we know it is a real piece of Mars?
The simplest way is to check the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory website (www.jpl.nasa.gov) for details of the rock in question (Tissint Shergottite). All documented impacts will be listed there, where you can find details of your Mars Rock.
The marsrock comes in a plastic box and is about 3 mm long which is fairly large. The box is 2x1 inch in size and can be opened, of course, to touch your piece of mars!
