Aletai meteorite spheres are crafted from the Aletai iron meteorite, discovered in 1898 in the Altay region of Xinjiang, northwest China. This meteorite is classified as a coarse octahedrite and formed over 4.5 billion years ago within the metallic core of an ancient asteroid. After cutting and polishing, the spheres are acid etched to reveal the natural Widmanstätten pattern, a crystalline structure of nickel-iron metal formed during extremely slow cooling in space that cannot be reproduced artificially.
Each sphere displays a unique network of metallic crystal bands across its surface. These patterns developed as the parent asteroid cooled by only a few degrees per million years, preserving a natural record from the early solar system. Aletai meteorite spheres are valued by collectors and science enthusiasts for their clear etching, documented discovery, and genuine extraterrestrial origin.
