DESCRIPTION

An original Death Star II surface panel model miniature from the production of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, directed by Richard Marquand. During the unforgettable final battle, Rebel pilots launch a desperate attack on the unfinished Death Star while the Imperial fleet moves to defend it. In one of the film’s most dramatic moments, a Super Star Destroyer loses control and crashes directly into the battle station, adding to the chaos of the assault.

This authentic production miniature was created by the legendary model makers at Industrial Light and Magic as part of the massive Death Star filming model used for visual effects shots. Panels like this helped form the vast mechanical landscape of the battle station seen in wide shots as fighters race across its surface.

The piece is constructed from biscuit foam and covered with intricate cast greebles that replicate the Death Star exterior's dense mechanical detail. It is finished in two tones of grey paint with black accents, a technique used by the ILM model shop to add depth and realism on camera. The result is a striking example of the practical effects of craftsmanship that brought one of cinema’s most iconic space battles to life.
