This Mercury Liberty Bell 7 Patch measures 3 inches in diameter and was produced by NASA's official patch manufacturer, AB Emblem. Liberty Bell 7 was flown by Astronaut Gus Grissom, one of the original Mercury 7. This suborbital flight was launched with the Mercury-Redstone Rocket and lasted a total of 15 minutes and 30 seconds, reaching an altitude of more than 190.4 kilometres before splashing down in the Atlantic ocean. Grissom came very close to drowning but was rescued just in time after the hatch of his capsule accidentally below, and he had open valves in his spacesuit allowing water to fill it and weigh him down.
