DESCRIPTION
An original Death Star II surface panel model miniature used during the filming of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, directed by Richard Marquand. During the dramatic final battle, Rebel fighters race across the unfinished Death Star as they begin their attack on the Imperial superweapon. Surface panels like this appear in wide establishing shots that reveal the towering structures and mechanical detail covering the battle station.
This miniature was designed and built by the model department at Industrial Light and Magic for medium and high-altitude shots of the vast Death Star surface set. Constructed from biscuit foam, the panel is covered with cast greebles and finished in two shades of grey paint with black accents, creating the layered mechanical look seen on screen.
