An authentic segment of parachute material from the Mercury Faith 7 capsule, part of the system that ensured astronaut Gordon Cooper returned safely to Earth, presented alongside an 8x10 photograph and housed within a removable acrylic display disc.
In stock
DESCRIPTION
This 1-inch triangular segment of orange parachute fabric originates from the parachute system used on the Faith 7 mission, the final flight of NASA’s Mercury program in 1963. Piloted by Gordon Cooper, Faith 7 completed 22 orbits around Earth, proving the capability for extended human spaceflight. After reentry, the capsule relied on its parachute system to slow descent and achieve a controlled splashdown in the ocean. The orange material was used for visibility during recovery operations, helping crews quickly locate the capsule at sea.
For collectors of space memorabilia and historical artifacts, this piece offers a direct connection to a landmark mission in early American space exploration.
