DESCRIPTION

This 1-inch triangular section of white parachute fabric comes from the parachute system used on the Faith 7 mission, the final flight of NASA’s Mercury program in 1963. Commanded by Gordon Cooper, Faith 7 completed 22 orbits around Earth, marking a major achievement in early human spaceflight. After reentry, the capsule relied on its parachute system to slow its descent and carry out a controlled ocean splashdown. The white canopy material was an essential component, engineered to perform reliably under intense conditions.

For collectors of space memorabilia and historic artifacts, this segment provides a direct link to one of the most important missions of the Mercury era.
